X-ray Kraków and Wieliczka – what do you need to know about this examination?

The examination involves X-raying the teeth to diagnose inflammation and diseases of the pulp and periodontium. X-ray is non-invasive and does not require any preparation on the part of the patient.

Indications for performing an X-ray examination

X-rays are only performed upon request of a doctor due to the radiation emitted during the examination. The doctor will inform you about the need to take a photo during the visit – then you will take it immediately in our X-ray studio in Wieliczka. The indications for testing include:
  1. severe pain,
  2. dental injuries,
  3. preparation for tooth extraction,
  4. advanced caries,
  5. risk of needing to start root canal treatment.
An X-ray is also performed for control purposes – the photo will help the specialist assess whether the treatment is bringing the expected effect.

Are dental X-rays safe?

X-rays are harmful to our body, but it should be borne in mind that the dose is crucial in this case. Radiation doses are low and the examination is safe. Therefore, they are performed even on small children. The main contraindication is pregnancy, because radiation may negatively affect the child’s development.

What does a dental X-ray look like?

A dental X-ray takes only a few minutes. Before the examination, the radiologist dresses the patient in a special apron with a lead insert that protects him from radiation. In the case of children, a neck cover is also used. When taking intraoral photos, the specialist additionally places the RVG sensor in the patient’s oral cavity.

Dental X-ray – types of diagnostic tests

There are several types of diagnostics that can be performed before starting dental treatment. The tests enable precise determination of the source of the problem and the location of the lesion. Thanks to this solution, the dentist can perform his work more efficiently and precisely, and the patient regains a healthy smile faster. Radiological tests performed in our office include:
  1. Spot photos – are necessary to assess the condition of the indicated teeth, as well as the tissues and roots located in their immediate vicinity. They can also be helpful in the case of endodontic (root canal) treatment – an X-ray allows you to check the filling of the canals.
  2. Panoramic / panoramic x-rays – they are a more accurate depiction of the entire jaw and mandible. This is a photo of the teeth of the upper and lower jaw, maxillary sinuses and temporomandibular joints. Thanks to it, the dentist can assess the condition of the teeth and periodontium and plan treatment accordingly. Panoramic images also reveal bone fractures, damage or bacterial infections. In addition, they expose wisdom tooth buds, which may cause other teeth to move.

Computed tomography — dental X-ray

In some cases, instead of dental X-ray, the doctor recommends tomography. Tomography is a three-dimensional examination performed when a more detailed diagnosis of the oral cavity is necessary. It enables a very accurate assessment of the patient’s bone conditions and the necessary measurements.
