Teeth whitening: how long does the effect of this treatment last?
The durability of whitening is influenced by, among others: factors such as diet, smoking, proper oral hygiene or taking certain medications. However, the average time that the teeth whitening effect lasts is two to three years.
Enamel remineralization whitening: how long does it take?
Before the whitening treatment itself, the dentist performs several other activities. This includes: initial dental check-up, and, depending on needs, stone cleaning and polishing. If two recent treatments occur, whitening is usually performed at the next visit. During it, the doctor applies appropriate preparations to the teeth and exposes them to a lamp. Such a dental visit lasts approximately 180 minutes and consists of three stages:
- Initially, deep-seated discolorations that did not disappear after the hygiene procedure are removed from the teeth.
- Then a foamy substance is applied and left on the teeth for a few minutes. Typically, this step is repeated several times. A lamp is also used for this purpose.
- The final step is enamel repair – hydroxyapatite remineralization
Does teeth whitening that remineralizes enamel hurt?
According to most patients, this procedure is not painful. However, very sensitive people may experience discomfort both during whitening and several hours after it.

What are the benefits of teeth whitening?
Whitening makes your teeth look more attractive. And for many patients, this translates into greater self-confidence, better well-being and smiling more often. As a result, such people find it easier to take on new challenges, such as public speaking. They also feel more comfortable connecting with other people.
Post-treatment effects are visible immediately. Thanks to this, you can quickly enjoy your new smile! You can whiten your teeth even 24 hours before an important occasion or celebration. However, remember to follow the „white diet”, which you will learn more about below.
Teeth remineralization in Krakow: what are the recommendations after the procedure?
After the procedure, you should follow a „white diet” for at least 72 hours. It involves excluding foods and drinks from your diet that discolor your teeth. This includes, for example, coffee, cola, tea, curry, red meat and dark fruits. Recommended foods include: poultry meats, rice, white bread, dairy products and water.
Following the white diet is extremely important because it will provide you with a longer post-treatment effect. This is because teeth are more susceptible to discoloration in the 24 hours after whitening. Pigments from food affect the enamel more strongly than usual. Consuming intensely colored foods in the first 72 hours after teeth whitening may even reverse the effects of the treatment!
Regenerative whitening that remineralizes enamel: what does it involve?
Furthermore, nano-hydroxyapatite is used during whitening, which penetrates the enamel surface and rebuilds it. Demineralization is a process that results in damage to tooth enamel. It is usually the result of improper oral hygiene, mature age, the occurrence of certain diseases (e.g. gastroesophageal reflux) or bad eating habits. White spots appear on teeth with enamel loss. They are also more sensitive to cold and warm drinks. Over time, the surface of such teeth also becomes rough.
At the above-mentioned stages, we can still stop the demineralization process (in subsequent stages, e.g., caries appears). For this purpose, enamel remineralization, i.e., its reconstruction, is performed. Lost ingredients are introduced into the tooth tissue. Thanks to this, after the procedure we can enjoy healthy teeth — without pain or carious spots!
