What is cosmetic dentistry?
A healthy and beautiful smile is the goal of aesthetic dentistry. The dentist’s task is to assess the appearance of the bite and then develop an individual action plan in accordance with the patient’s expectations. Aesthetic dentistry in Krakow is a solution for those who are not satisfied with the appearance of their teeth, want to improve them and increase their self-confidence.
What constitutes cosmetic dentistry?
Cosmetic dentistry has a wide range of activities and treatments that improve the appearance of our smile. However, most often we choose treatments that improve the color and shape of teeth. Patients decide primarily on:
- whitening,
- sanding,
- installing veneers or prosthetic crowns.
In addition to these methods, there are others tailored to the patient’s needs. These include, for example: recontouring, which involves closing the diastema, grinding teeth, and removing tartar.
Contraindications to treatments may include:
- patients under 16 years of age,
- bad health condition,
- hypersensitivity or allergies to the ingredients of preparations used for treatments,
- pregnancy and breastfeeding,
- when unhealed cavities occur.
Veneers
Veneers are one of the most popular elements of aesthetic dentistry. These are very thin, single overlays that are glued to teeth whose shape or color is not satisfactory. The price depends on the material from which they are made, and the cost ranges from several hundred to even several thousand zlotys.
Ceramic veneers
They adapt to natural teeth, are very durable, and are made quickly and safely.
Composite veneers
They are made of the same material used to fill gaps in teeth. Composite veneers are durable and easily match the rest of your natural teeth. They should be renewed after 2–3 years.
Porcelain veneers
This is the most popular and least invasive method that gives a natural and aesthetic effect. One of the biggest advantages of porcelain veneers is the time after which they need to be replaced with new ones. It is approximately 5–10 years.
Bonding
Bonding is a safe method of tooth reconstruction using composite resins. It is a flexible dental material used, for example, to fill carious cavities. This method is recommended for patients who have problems with single teeth. In this way, small distortions are masked.
Teeth whitening
Teeth whitening is another method of improving your smile and should be done under the supervision of a dentist to avoid damaging the enamel, as is the case with home whitening methods. The specialist will select the appropriate technique and ensure that the patient’s needs are met.
Overlay whitening
Teeth whitening is divided into two stages: in-office and home whitening. This method involves making a cast of dental arches, and on their basis, overlays for whitening are created. The second stage is to use the overlays at home in accordance with the dentist’s guidelines. The patient wears them for a certain period of time every day for about 2 weeks.
With this method, teeth can be whitened by up to 6 shades, and the effect can last up to 3 years if you follow the dentist’s recommendations.
Contraindications to overlay teeth whitening are active caries, as well as pregnancy and breastfeeding. This method is also not recommended for people who smoke cigarettes.
In-office whitening
In-office whitening is the safest method of teeth whitening. Additionally, the dentist will select the technique appropriate to the condition of the patient’s teeth.
Laser whitening is often used, which can lighten up to 8 shades. The duration of the treatment is approximately 1 hour, depending on the case. Please remember that a contraindication is the lack of cured carious lesions, which may lead to serious complications. In-office whitening is also not recommended for pregnant and breastfeeding women.
